African Flower into a square - Floare Africana intr-un patrat

I promised you in my previous post that I'll show you what I made with a bunch of African flowers.

Well ... I made a two-sided pillow cover.

And ... it's for sale. If you want to buy it, you can purchase it as item from my Etsy shop - ElenisHandmadeDesign. It would be a very nice gift for a friend's Housewarming or a Christmas gift for someone you love.

These are those two sides of the pillow cover. The diference sees only on joining part. Both sides of the pillowcase had african flower motif on the front side and a full motif on the back side, made from rows of double crochet.

Written-pattern (with photos) for the African Flower in 6 petals you can find here.

But, for making this two-sided pillow cover, I had to mount the African flower into a square.

And that's what we'll learn to crochet today.

Materials:

  • Yarn: Himalaya Everyday (70002) - 100% Antipilling Acrylic (100 gr ~ 250 m)

  • Crochet hook: 3,5 mm

  • Scissors and tapestry needle

Stitches and abbreviations (U.S. terms):

  • st(s) - stitch(es)

  • ch - chain stitch

  • sc - single crochet

  • hdc - half double crochet

  • dc - double crochet

  • tc - treble crochet (yarn over twice on your hook)

  • slst - slip stitch

  • sknst(s) - skip (n) stitch(es)

  • Lsc - long single crochet

START:

Row 1: Join the yarn in the 4th sc of one of the 7dc group, ch3 (counted as dc), 1dc in the same st; 3dc in the next 3sts; sk Lsc; 3dc in the next 3sts; 2dc in the next st (this group of 2 should be made into the middle of the next 7dc group); * 3dc, sk Lsc, 3dc, 2dc in the same st * - repeat all around; join with slst. You should have a total of 48dc (6 groups of 6dc separated by groups of 2dc in the same st).

Row 2: Ch1; sc's in next 2sts; 1hdc; 1dc; 1tc, ch3, 1tc (first corner); 9sc; 1dc; 1tc, ch3, 1tc (the 2nd corner); 1dc; 1hdc; 2sc; 1spst; 2sc; 1hdc; 1dc; 1tc, ch3, 1tc (the 3rd corner); 1dc; 9sc; 1dc; 1tc, ch3, 1tc (the 4th corner); 1dc; 1hdc; 2sc; join with slst.

Now, you can stop here with the square, or you can continue with 1 or 2 more rows or as many as you want in the following way.

Row 3: Ch3; 2dc in same st; ch1; sk 2sts; 3dc in the next st; ch1; sk 2sts; (3dc, ch3, 3dc) in the ch3-sp of the first corner; sk 3sts; 3dc in the next st; sk 3sts; 3dc in the next st; sk 2sts; 3dc in the next st; (3dc, ch3, 3dc) in next ch3-sp of the 2nd corner.

Continue in the same way all around. Join with slst. Fasten off or continue working another row in the same way.

I hope you enjoyed today's project.
